What is fiber internet, and how is it different from cable or DSL?

Fiber internet is a next-generation broadband technology that uses thin strands of glass or plastic fibers to transmit data as pulses of light…allowing for much faster and more reliable internet connections than traditional cable or DSL.

Unlike older technologies that rely on copper wires, fiber delivers symmetrical upload and download speeds, virtually unlimited bandwidth, and ultra-low latency, making it the best option for streaming, gaming, remote work, and smart homes.

What internet speed do I need for streaming, gaming, or working from home?

ColoTel Fiber offers fiber internet speeds of 250 Mbps, 500 Mbps, and up to 1 Gig, giving customers reliable options for any lifestyle. For households that mainly stream movies or TV shows in HD or 4K, the 250 Mbps plan is typically sufficient unless multiple devices are streaming at once. If you combine online gaming, streaming, and moderate work-from-home activity, the 500 Mbps plan provides the extra speed and low latency needed for smooth performance. Those who work from home frequently, participate in video calls, or upload large files will benefit from the 1 Gig plan, which offers fast, dependable connectivity for demanding tasks. For large households or tech-savvy users running many devices, live streams, or smart home systems, the 1 Gig plan delivers top-tier performance and future-proof internet capacity.

I’m a gamer! What internet speed to your recommend?

For most gamers, we recommend at least 250 Mbps of download speed for a smooth experience, especially if you play online multiplayer games, download large game updates, stream gameplay, or share your connection with other household members. If multiple people are streaming, working from home, or gaming at the same time, 500 Mbps or more will provide even better performance and help prevent lag, buffering, and slow downloads.

Does ColoTel Fiber offer unlimited data plans?

Yes, ColoTel Fiber offers unlimited data with all its internet plans. That means you can stream, game, work from home, and connect multiple devices without worrying about data caps or overage fees. How does ColoTel Fiber install fiber internet at my home or business?

The process begins with a site evaluation to confirm service availability and schedule a convenient installation time. Technicians then run a fiber-optic line from the nearest network access point to your property, using either underground cabling. Inside your home or business, they install an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which converts the fiber signal into usable internet and connects to your router or managed Wi-Fi system.

ColoTel Fiber configures your router or provides a managed Wi-Fi solution to optimize performance across all your devices. After setup, technicians test your connection to ensure you’re receiving the correct speed tier and verify that all devices are online. You’ll also receive guidance on managing your network, setting passwords, and accessing support if needed.

What equipment do I need for ColoTel Fiber fiber internet?

To use ColoTel Fiber fiber internet, you’ll need an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and a router. The ONT is installed by ColoTel Fiber technicians and connects your home or business to their fiber network. For Wi-Fi, you can either use your own compatible router or opt for ColoTel Fiber’s Managed Wi-Fi service, which includes a high-performance router and support. Optional mesh extenders are available to improve coverage in larger spaces. All equipment is professionally installed and configured to ensure optimal performance from day one.
